Christmas in a Candy Kitchen

Attn Warriors:You are welcome to reprint this article as long as you include myresource box with the active link to my website and don'tchange the content of the article.DIFFERENT DESIGNS/DIFFERENT FILLINGS by Jane M. D. OsinskiChristmas in a candy kitchen...surely a child's dream come true.And so it was in the Devendorf household, with Alice Devendorf's Candies.
Chocolate coated delicacies were chosen and packed in rows beside chocolate and vanilla caramels.
Her vanilla, coffee, chocolate, peppermint, and wintergreen creams were mailed from Asheville, North Carolina all around the world.

But busy as Mother was at Christmas time, there was always time enough for the Devendorf children to earn candy gifts for friends by shelling containers for her candies and helping Daddy wrap packages.
Lively music accompanied the tck-tck of her candy fork on the chocolate buckets.Candy boxes were laid out to be packed and delivered to the Asheville Biltmore Hotel, grove Park Inn and Rhetta Bollinger's Gift shop.
The long flat Indian basket from the Everglades was filled with candies for the teachers in our schools.
Smaller baskets and pretty jars held candies for exchange with friends.
Pulled mints made rainbows in their jars.

As Daddy wrapped parcels of Mother's caramels, creams, and pulled mints for mailing, we helped by holding the string.
Often our fingers were gently tied into the cord on the package.
Daddy laughed and asked, "Where do you want to be mailed this time, Ohio or Timbuktu, or....?"
Then he would read off the labels as he put them on the packages:
"Warren, Ohio; Columbia, Missouri;
Los Angeles, California; Orlando, Florida;
Atlanta, Georgia;
Raleigh, North Carolina;
St. John's, Newfoundland...."
When he had received enough "help" Daddy put a candy sticker on our forehead, extracted the helper's finger from the string, and gently pushed us out the door.
With Daddy's help, we turned into Pixies and set the table so Mother and Birdie could concentrate on her candy.

We shelled extra container's in contests designed to save Mother time and energy.
Often, the helping was done in secret. On Birdie's day off Mother made candy alone.
She needed to spend her time making candies to fill the orders, so she had little time for cooking meals.
Daddy donned a huge apron and mixed waffles or pancakes for us.
Sometimes he even made creamed beef on toast. As Christmas neared, my early letters to Santa included a request for Lollipops.

Not an item in Mother's candy kitchen, she thought up a "coated saltine" which satisfied my sweet tooth.
Before long, it was also in demand by her regular customers. Mother set her chocolate coated morsels on different designs of embossed wax paper.
If you knew the code, as she did, you could easily pick out the vanilla, coffee, chocolate, peppermint and wintergreen creams.
At age five, I couldn't remember the code.
If I was looking for something besides a coated saltine, I couldn't distinguish it by sight.

So, just before their Christmas party, I chose by taking a bite from the bottom of every piece on the plate, as Mother discovered to her chagrin. Alice Devendorf's Candies graced the tables of Mrs. George Vanderbilt at the Biltmore Estate, Mr. Winship Nunally in Georgia, Mr. Pack in New York, as well as the trees of many friends in Asheville and elsewhere.
The trees might be elegantly decorated with all blue lights, trimmed by children with only popcorn and paper ornaments, or bowed down with family heirloom decorations.

Alice Devendorf's Candies were among the favored decorations. Daddy and Mother enjoyed variety, rather than one-tone perfection in blue lights.
always, they maintained room for different designs in children, as well as in Alice Devendorf's candies. ENDExcerpt from Behind The Candy Kitchen Door ? 1986 by Jane M. D. A Diamond Christmas 2004!

When Archduke Maximillian of Austria bestowed a diamond ring on Mary of Burgundy in 1477, giving a diamond as a symbol of love and commitment was birthed. Prior to this only royalty wore diamonds, believing they symbolized strength and courage. The root of the word diamond comes from the Greek word "adamas", which means unconquerable". Other folklore surrounding diamonds links them to Cupid, whose arrows were said to be tipped with diamonds. A diamond is an exceedingly rare item.

Over 250 tons of ore must be processed to come up with just one 1-carat diamond of any quality. There are five nations in the world which account for over 90% of the world's rough diamond supply, and those are Australia, Botswana, Namibia, Russia and South Africa. Several other countries produce smaller but significant stones, like the Canadian Excellent Cut diamonds from the Arctic circle. Now that we agree that they are rare and quite valuable, why still do we want to give them as gifts? Because they're...

Million Dollar Business Status from Humble Beginnings ? My true story

Many of you who are reading this will identify strongly with the work situation I was in and will at this moment be thinking of breaking free of the corporate shackles and discovering the freedom of your own business.

Going back to 1994, I graduated with a university degree, for which I had studied part time for 7 years, and armed with my new qualification managed to get a position in a medium sized corporate.

By 1997 I had progressed fairly well in the company and was cruising along quite happily with fairly good prospects in sight.

Great things had been promised and my objective of getting onto the board of the company was starting to become a reality.

However as the months passed by I was beginning to realize that my future, that was in the hands of the company directors, wasn't being addressed with the passion that I thought it deserved.

My concerns were brought to the directors' attention who assured me that...
